Good news – We are pleased to share that some of our Young People were invited to the GAVO Award Ceremony on 4^th October 2018 to perform.  Feedback from this event is that ‘the 7 Corners shone, as it should for all its young people and positive work’.  Well done everyone who took part in this event.

Tesco Bags of Help Grant Scheme – we have been notified with regard to the vote results, we came 2^nd and hopefully will receive the money shortly – although we have not secured the full amount requested, this is excellent news.  These funds will go towards the much needed repairs of the front of the building which is now underway in preparation for the winter months.

On 27 October 2018 there will be a ‘Hotspot’ party at Bailey Park in the round Bandstand with the title ‘Living in the Light’ at which there will be hotdogs, donuts on strings and general fun.  This will be the weekend immediately prior to Halloween and it is hoped it will draw youngsters from more harmful activities and influences.

The 24/7 Prayer Room will be running from 7pm Wednesday October 31st till 7pm Wednesday 7th November 2018.  Ange has just returned from a 24/7 Prayer conference in Vienna – inspiring, reflective and reconciling!  As ever there will be a theme to the week but to find out what it is you will need to book a slot!  Please contact Ange on 01873 855 414 or pop in to the 7Corners office to book your prayer slots – all are welcome. With Ange’s hard work the chill room will be turned into an oasis of calm and tranquillity where people can spend an hour or two away from the rush and bustle of everyday life in prayer, meditation or simply peace and quiet!

September has arrived – definitely a chill in the air!  Embrace the chilly mornings by waking up with the thought that something wonderful is about to happen.

GSUSLive – is a mobile classroom with a multimedia computer suite providing lessons for secondary school pupils.  Within its stimulating environment they investigate Jesus’ teaching on fear, forgiveness and rejection and discover how Jesus is relevant today in the lives of practising Christians.  On Saturday 08 September Ange whizzed from our Trustees’ meeting to a GSUS Live training event which was held in Blackwood.  She is now preparing to present on the GSUS Live bus on 10 October 2018.  Please pray for Ange and for the GSUS Live work in Blackwood, Torfaen and Merthyr Tydfil.

August – for a number of our young people – the month of examination results and getting ready to go back to school . . . ahh I remember it well!  For all those young people going off to College/University we wish you well.

Ange returned from her well deserved rest – ready to start again.  Where does she get her energy and ideas from?  She is already thinking ahead to C-C-C-Christmas!

Good news – We are pleased to share that on 4^th October 2018 some of our Young People who performed at the IYE Festival have been invited to the GAVO Award Ceremony to perform. This is an excellent opportunity for them – well done.

Leading up to the IYE Festival Ange undertook an intensive course with Heads of the Valleys Training, where she was put through her paces of ‘hitching, towing and reversing a trailer’ and then sat the examination – congratulations Ange – she passed and has a certificate to prove it!   Gold star Ange

The IYE festival took place on Saturday 14 July 2017 in Bailey Park, officially opened by the Mayor of Abergavenny Teslin Davies – what a day!  Many thanks to all those who took part, either by being involved throughout the day or setting up and packing away … we couldn’t have done it without you!  Also thanks go out to everyone for their generous contributions and support, to mention everyone individually would not be possible – you know who you are: THANK YOU. The sun shone and everyone had a blast!  Great fun was had by all on the day with a wide range of activities and performances to enjoy – there are some very talented young people out there.  Ange is now looking forward to a break to rest and recover ready for her next adventure . . . watch this space!!

Another month gone already and we were blessed with sunshine on the May bank holiday . . . looking forward to the next one!

Diary of Ange aged … well we will leave that a secret as much as to say by the time you read this she will be yet another year younger.  On 04 May she attended a course at the Bridges Centre, Monmouth on Inspiring evaluation with creative input – this was very interesting and a good networking opportunity.  Then on 15 May she attended the Mayoral Installation and was very excited to learn that the Mayor Teslin Davies a retired teacher will be focusing on young people during her term of office.

7Corners has been nominated for the Community Matters Scheme – Green tokens at Waitrose, Llanfoist for the month of May 2018.  Please show your support by placing your tokens in the 7Corners’ box.

Last month we welcomed Tammy our new Job Centre Plus work experience placement to the team.  This month we say goodbye to Tammy as she has been successful and secured employment – well done Tammy.

Sunday Diners Easter Special was held on 08 April 2018 – with eight young people in attendance the menu for the day was Lamb followed by Apple Crumble with custard!

As promised Emma undertook an event titled ‘Chocolate!’ on 11 April 2018 – lots of chocolate and fresh fruit were consumed plus very thought provoking questions were asked: Why Fairtrade? And what is global responsibility?  Also ‘a snow no more’ – BBQ was held on Saturday 14 April; an informal gathering to mark the end of the young people’s Easter Holidays and I am delighted to report that there was no snow, only sunshine.

We are pleased to welcome Tammy, our new Job Centre Plus work experience placement, to the team. She has been providing general help around the Centre, working in the Cafe and gaining administration experience.

I hope this letter finds you safe and warm.  I wonder if it is just me – weather forecasts never used to be so exciting . . . ‘the Beast from the East’ meeting with ‘storm Emma’! Red and Amber weather warnings resulting in nine foot drifts of snow.  Well thank goodness it is all over. .  .or is it?  Let us look forward to spring and Easter blessings.

During all the weather excitement Ange was invited to provide a practical presentation – ‘Prayer Spaces in Schools’ – at the Church in Wales School, Gilwern.  Unfortunately, this had to be deferred to 14 March 2018.

Sunday Diners continues – 11 March 2018 Ange prepared ‘Dragons’ and if I add Cumberland then you will know that sausages was on the menu!  The next meal will take place on 08 April 2018 which will be an Easter Special.

How many of you managed to see ‘Romero – Heartbeat of El Salvador’ at the Priory Centre, Abergavenny presented by Rise Theatre?  I have heard that it was an excellent performance with a very powerful message.

When you are in the town centre look out for the Easter Window in Red Square – Ange will be busy creating on 25 March 2018, the theme I am sure will be both powerful and reflective.  Don’t forget British Summer time begins that weekend, clocks go forward!

Easter Holidays at 7Corners is 29 March – 16 April 2018 which will include some chocolaty theme/activities.  These will be led by Emma.

During Holy Week, 7Corners Centre will be closed 29 March – 01 April 2018.  There will be a Good Friday Walk of Witness (7Corners Centre will be open for Hot Cross Buns after the Service) and an evening reflection will take place at the Salvation Army.

PLEASE NOTE

The Centre will be closed from Tuesday 20 March for Ange to have a break before Easter.

It will re-open on Tuesday 27 March.

The office will be open as usual during that time.

Back in January Ange was busy making wonderful Red Lentil soup for the ‘Week of Prayer for Christian Unity’  lunchtime prayer meeting and soup lunch at the Salvation Army Hall – if you missed her soup you missed a treat! Thanks also go to all who attended the service at Llanwenarth Chapel as the retiring offering has kindly been given to 7Corners.

February this year has been a very busy month at the centre!  Saturday 10^th the young people were invited to make a Valentine Banner where everyone was included to ‘share the love’ and use their artistic talents. Sunday Diners – started back with a Valentine Special!  Ange decorated the cafe area beautifully and prepared a impressive lunch which all enjoyed.  Pancakes were on the menu for Shrove Tuesday and during God Squad the meaning of Ash Wednesday was shared.  In addition to this busy week, Ange attended a Careers Fair at King Henry VII on the Thursday evening.

Half term week 19th – 25th at 7Corners – Emma will be holding a Health and Wellbeing Workshop at the centre looking at how much sugar is in the ‘Energy’ drinks that are popular with young people at the moment. Plus the HotSpot caravan will be present at the Community Safety event on Friday 23^rd – ‘Safe and Sound’ in Bailey Park.

What exactly is a ‘New Year’s resolution? – It’s a ‘To Do list’ for the first week in January!

 We are pleased to welcome Emma a new volunteer to the team.  Emma is undertaking her L4 University Field Placement with us at 7Corners.

What have we been up to at 7Corners since I last wrote?  Well there has been a number of new Integrated Workshops run @ 7Corners in conjunction with Charter Housing Youth Forum. The topics covered were Graffiti, DJ & Beat-boxing plus Drug and Alcohol Awareness – not forgetting that there was pizza and doughnuts!

Dates for February – Sunday Diners – Ange will be starting these again shortly, the first of which will be held on 11 February which will be a Valentine Special!
